The Amelia/Jake Aging Adventure.
“Please,” Amelia said, rolling her eyes. “You’ve been a drunkard long enough to make the slightest bit of sense even when you have had a bit of rum. And do you not remember how you looked at me? You were acting like you’d be a predator to dare do it with me. That’s because you would have been seen as one. Because you were old. But now you’re not, so I suggest you accept the miracle that has happened and deal with it.
“People have always judged you, but they at least acknowledged you. And what do you mean, I’m staring at you weird? I’m looking at you with new eyes. Because this is the first time I’ve seen you young.”
Amelia put her head down on the table, frustrated as ever. “You didn’t need a fake ID,” She whined, resisting the urge to bang her fists on the table like a child. “You were of age…”
She got her head back up and pushed her hair behind her ears. “Forget it,” She conceded, “You obviously don’t remember anything about being thirty, and I don’t remember you being eighteen. Let’s just forget about it, okay? Shit happens. When people ask, we’ll chalk it up to a trick of the light or whatever. I say we go back to your boat and hang out. Not necessarily have sex, just hang out. It’s socially acceptable now, and I’d rather not be surrounded by gyrating sweaty people.”
He was beginning to give in to her insistence that he had previously been much older. Jake raised his hands defensively, trying to calm her. “Okay, okay- I don’t remember much of this.. I don’t remember being even a day older than I am now but I believe you.. stranger things have happened.”
Jake rested his head on his forehead. This was all too confusing and it was exhausting him. “Yes, I don’t want to be here anymore.. haven’t actually got the appetite for rum right now. To my boat it is.” He stood up, and took her by the arm. “This way, Amelia.” He then led her through the town, ignoring all the strange glances he received. Jake led her through the docks and onto his ship which was empty at this time. Nobody seemed to notice the two of them get onto the ship though a mist the hustle and bustle of the workers at the dock. Reaching into his pocket, he took out his keys to his captain’s quarters. He extended a hand to her and allowed her entry. “Here you are then.”
